IPSWICH: A man will appear in court today charged with manslaughter after an alleged assault outside an Ipswich pub.

Paul Dell, of Neath Drive in Ipswich will appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a plea hearing.

The 44-year-old has been charged with causing the death of father-of-one Simon Cowles.

Mr Cowles, 20, died two days after an alleged assault at The Smock pub in Maidenhall Approach in the early hours of April 17.

Dell, who works as a tyre fitter at large plant factories across the region, is on conditional bail and subject to a curfew.

At an earlier hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, Dell was told not to go onto the Maidenhall estate or speak to anyone who was at the estate pub around the time of the incident, including the landlord and landlady.

Mr Cowles was initially taken to Ipswich Hospital with a serious head injury but then transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he later died.
