Ipswich man followed through on vandalism threat at railway station

An Ipswich man will have to pay the price for his frustration at police escalating to vandalism.
Salvation Army hostel resident, Jamie McCleary, 30, called police with his intention to smash a car window at Bury St Edmunds railway station, where officers had dropped him after an interview over a noise complaint at his partner’s Brandon home.
Police arrived shortly after 3.10am on November 15 to find he had indeed smashed the rear window of a Toyota.
Solicitor Mark Holt told magistrates that McCleary identified the damaged car to police and admitted his guilt.
“Despite pleading, he was dropped off in the wee hours, with no trains running and no money to travel with.
“He told police if they didn’t collect him, he’d put the window through.
“He was taken back to the police station, where at least it was warm.”

McCleary was ordered to pay £300 in compensation and £85 in court costs.
