Police have named a 23-year-old man from Ipswich who died in a crash in Long Melford on Wednesday.

Maciej Antkowiak was a passenger in the front of a Toyota Yaris when it crashed into a wall in Westgate Street shortly before 6am.

He was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he later died.

A 26-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the crash.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was later released under investigation.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash as investigations into what happened continue.

A spokesman said: “It is understood that the car involved in the collision left Ipswich at approximately 5am that morning, and travelled towards Long Melford via Hadleigh, along the A1071 and A134.”

Witnesses who saw a red Toyota Yaris on this route between 5am and 5.45am are being urged to get in touch.
