A SHOCKED Ipswich man is today recovering after being mugged at gunpoint as he walked along Alderman Road, Ipswich.

Two male attackers, who are thought to have been armed with a handgun, hauled the man to the ground and emptied his pockets.

The victim was on his way to the town centre and had come from the Handford Road direction when the attack took place at around 10.40pm last night.

The two males confronted the victim and one of them pointed what appeared to be a handgun at his face.

This attacker is described as around 5ft10inches tall and aged between 24 and 28 years old.

He was wearing a dark bodywarmer, dark trousers and white trainers.

A second male, described as white, around 6ft tall and aged between 24 and 28 years old, then grabbed the victim from behind and pulled him to the ground. Both attackers then fled the scene with the victim's wallet.

Teresa Houlden, who lives in Alderman Road, said she was shocked by the incident but had not experienced any similar problems before.

She said: "I don't really know what goes on around here at night. It's a bad area for prostitutes but I've not heard of anything like this happening. I wouldn't really take my children out after dark but my two older boys go out night. It is worrying."

Investigating officer Dc Lizzie Windsor said: "Although the victim was not injured during the incident, he is extremely shocked by what took place.

"I need to speak to anyone who was in this part of town last night or indeed with anyone who recognises the description and believes they know who the offenders are."

Anyone with any information about the incident should call Dc Lizzie Windsor at Ipswich CID, on 01473 613500, or Crime Stoppers, on 0800 555111.
