The Mayor of Ipswich paid a visit to a hearing specialist centre this week to raise awareness for the importance of regular hearing checks.
Roger Fern visited the Hearing Care Centre in Upper Brook Street as part of National Deaf Awareness Week, where he found out about what is involved in a hearing test and why it is important to have check-ups.
The practice has offered free tests all week in order to promote the importance of maintaining healthy hearing.
Karen Finch, managing director at the centre, said: “People don’t like admitting that they don’t hear as well as they used to because they feel like they are conceding to getting older.
“Leaving hearing loss untreated can lead to fatigue, stress, isolation and diminished overall health, including dementia, depression and cognitive abilities, so it’s vitally important that people take their hearing seriously.”
