A 49-year-old man is due before magistrates this morning accused of breaching an order banning him from street drinking and substance abuse in Ipswich, the day after it was issued.
Michael Smith, of no fixed abode, was issued with a Criminal Related Antisocial Behavioural Order (Crasbo) prohibiting him from carrying unsealed containers of alcohol or lighter gas in Ipswich town centre.
The order was issued at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich on Wednesday, in relation to an incident of causing harassment, alarm or distress outside the NSPCC offices in Crown Street on Sunday, April 27.
Smith failed to attend court and was found guilty in his absence. He attended court later in the day and was fined, ordered to pay a victim surcharge and detained in the cells until the court had finished.
Yesterday, Smith was charged with breaching his Crasbo and is due back before magistrates this morning.
The order lasts two years - if an offence is committed in breach of the order, Smith can be fined or imprisoned for up to five years.
Smith is not allowed to enter sections of Portman Road, Barrack Corner, St Matthews Street , Civic Drive, Westgate Street, Cornhill and Tavern Street unless attending a specified appointment within the area.
