Suffolk is set to take centre stage at the Britain’s Got Talent final tonight with the Missing People Choir and Stowmarket magician Matt Edwards competing for the winning title.
Last night the Missing People Choir - of which Nicki Durbin, mother of missing Luke Durbin, is a member - went sailing through to the final round through the public vote.
A picture of Luke, who went missing from Ipswich in 2006, appeared on the screen behind the singers as they performed live on ITV.
Speaking ahead of the final, Ms Durbin, who has not joined the choir to perform on the show, said: “It’s very exciting. What was so fantastic last night was there were lots of different missing people including Luke displayed in the background.
“What was so lovely was social media. It just brought the whole missing community together. Lots of different families were Tweeting and messaging each other.
“None of us want to be here, obviously, but we are. The way that choir brought the whole missing community together, it was just so lovely. A really uplifting experience in a horrendous situation.”
She added that she was excited to watch the final tonight over a take away with her mum.
Joining the Missing People Choir will be Stowmarket magician Matt Edwards, who first impressed judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden with a trick involving tequila.
Also in the running for the title are:
• Comedian Daliso Chaponda
• Singers The Pensionalities
• Dance act MerseyGirls
• Pianist Tokio Myers
• Young comedian Ned Woodman
• Eight-year-old magician Issy Simpson
• Teenage singer Kyle Tomlinson
• Magic duo DNA
Plus a wildcard act to be selected by the judges.
