A Suffolk mother has spoken out after spotting a couple having sex in Ipswich town centre on Saturday afternoon.

Contacting the Star, the woman suggested the sight – which she claims her family witnessed on Northgate Street during a “lovely day out” – ruined her son’s 10th birthday.

The alleged incident is said to have happened at around 5.45pm.

The mum-of-two said she tried to find police on the street to report what they had seen but could not find anyone.

“I have just returned from Ipswich town centre on a summery Saturday afternoon,” she said. “We would have had a lovely day out had we not just witnessed a couple having sex.

“Yes, my son will always remember his 10th birthday for this notable event – great.

She added: “I was disgusted and angry – it wasn’t even in the doorway it was just on the street.”

Police said this over the weekend that they had not received any other reports from members of the public or businesses in the area.

In an update this afternoon officers said it had now been reported and an investigation has been launched.

It is expected that CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed as part of the police investigation.

A force spokeswoman said: “Police have received a report of two people engaged in sexual activity in a public place in the vicinity of Northgate Street, Ipswich around 5.45pm on Saturday 8 July.

“The incident was first reported yesterday, Sunday 9 July at 10.30pm and officers are now investigating.”
