Ipswich Borough Council has submitted plans for almost 100 council homes in the town, it can be revealed.

Writing in today’s Ipswich Star, council leader and Labour parliamentary candidate for Ipswich David Ellesmere said the plans were for Ravenswood in the south-east of the town.

“Last week we submitted a planning application for 94 new council houses on Ravenswood,” he said. “This is on top of the application for 22 homes on disused garage and garden land at Ulster Avenue.”

The Ulster Avenue development is for a piece of land to the back of a shopping parade where council chiefs are keen to create 22 flats which will be a mixture of one and two beds.

A document detailing the development says there will be 22 flats in five blocks, footways and parking. It will have four two storey blocks and one three storey building.

Mr Ellesmere also said construction work at Bader Close for 108 council houses will begin shortly. The Bader Close project will be the biggest council house scheme in Ipswich for 50 years. The latest site forms part of the Whitehouse estate, which is a purpose-built council estate dating back to the 1930s.

Ipswich Borough Council is on a drive to build more council homes in the town. Mr Ellesmere said the latest application showed councillors were “really delivering” on their election promise.
