A child was rescued from a house fire by neighbours in Ipswich yesterday evening.

The fire at a house in Ipswich was reported at 6pm with three firefighting crews from the town heading to the blaze.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was in a first-floor bedroom and their crews had to wear breathing apparatus while tackling it.

They used one hosereel jet to put it out with the incident under control by 6.30pm.

One child was rescued from the house by neighbours before the fire brigade arrived and was left in the care of paramedics.

However a spokesman for the ambulance service said no one had been taken to hospital because of the incident.

A police spokesman said although officers attended the incident there was no indication at this time that the cause of the fire was suspicious.
