Mayor of Ipswich Bill Quinton has opened a new toilet block at Holywells Park.

The toilet block and changing facility is part of a £3.5million renovation project at the park.

It has been built next to the children’s play area, meaning families will no longer need to head up to the stable block to use the facilities.

Ipswich Borough Council received a grant of £2.8 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund, supplemented by funding from the Friends of Holywells Park and by the borough council.

Other improvements on the way includes a visitor centre, which includes a café and more public toilets, in the Stable Block and an open-air theatre space and better paths and access.

Three ponds have also been desilted and the overall construction project should be completed by the end of the year.

As well as improving the park’s heritage, the project will enable the borough council and friends to put on more activities in Holywells.
