BAFFLED Ipswich Town fans took home a bit more from London Road than they were expecting at the weekend as the Blues took on relegation rivals Peterborough United.

For while the teams played out a goalless draw on the pitch, unlucky supporters on the terraces were discovering the backs of their coats had somehow been covered in a layer of white paint.

Bosses at Posh said they were unsure of how the paint had left its mark but it has been reported it may have come from the toilets, which were affected by the damp comditions.

Blues’ fans took to Twitter immediately after the game to vent their frustration about the incident, which has been dubbed Paintgate.

Ian Reeve said: “It’s a new FA directive. Games can only be described “as much fun as watching paint dry” if actual drying paint at the ground.”

Craig Lyons said: “Seems to be hundreds covered in it. Hope the insurance is up to date.”

George Taylor added: “I can’t even remember leaning on anything.”

Some supporters have complained to officials at Peterborough but others have said washing their coats has removed the stains.

Responding to complaints, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said on Twitter: “I’m used to abuse about us losing but about paint is a new one.

“Let me apologise all way from the states about issues today. Club will fix/sort any items damaged/stained by today’s freak occurrence.”

A Posh spokesman said no painting had taken place since the start of the season and the incident is being investigated.

Saturday’s result leaves Ipswich in 20th place, four points clear of the dropzone.
