A proposal to create seven homes at the back of The Railway pub in Ipswich have been rejected by planners, who have said the development would cause major traffic problems in the area.
The site identified for the homes was a former car park next to the pub, with access for vehicles from Cauldwell Hall Road.
Planners at the borough council yesterday refused the application due to the development being “cramped” and having a lack of parking facilities, which it was thought would have a detrimental impact on traffic in the area, which also includes Foxhall Road.
Albert Grant, a borough councillor who sits on the planning and development committee, said: “The design is alright but the car parking is going to cause problems.”
Bixley ward councillor John Carnall added: “My main reservation is I think it is a crammed-in development and I think that is the cause of the problems.”
