Proposals to convert unused rooms at the Great White Horse Hotel in Ipswich into a business centre and flats are due to go before planners in June.

In December, plans were announced to revamp the Grade II-Listed building, including extending the Starbucks onto the first floor, creating three new two-bedroom flats behind the courtyard and turning the old guest rooms into a hub for start-up firms.

The eight-week consultation period on the proposals has now begun, with the matter due to go before the planning committee in June.

The hotel welcomed its last guests in 2008, but since then has proved unviable.

The application added: “Various hotel operators have considered the building over the years, including Easy Hotel, but each has considered it unsuitable for their needs due to the cost and layout. Easy Hotel will be opening next door in Northgate Street in 2017.”
