Police have appealed for the victim of another possible sexual assault in Ipswich to come forward after linking three other incidents yesterday.

After information received from a member of the public, police reviewed CCTV for potential offences in nearby areas. An incident has been identified as happening in the St Matthews Street subway at approximately 1.50pm on Monday to a female victim.

Following the incident the female then entered a supermarket in St Matthews Street.

Police are linking this incident to three others cases of sexual assault in the town.

A 17-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted in Crown Street, opposite Crown House, at around 2pm on Monday.

A man approached her and placed his hand up her skirt, touching her legs. He then said sorry and ran off towards the nearby bus station.

He is described as a white man with a tanned complexion, aged 30 to 40 years old, around 5ft 7ins tall, of a medium build, had short light brown hair and was wearing a tight white vest top with dark coloured knee-length shorts.

Detectives are linking the incident to similar allegations of sexual assault. On April 23, a woman told police she was near the entrance of the Wolsey Theatre in Civic Drive when a man approached her from behind and put his hand up her dress before running off.

The incident took place at around 1.50pm.

The man is described as white, between 30-35 years old, around 5ft 8ins tall, with short thinning dark brown hair and a bald patch at the rear of his head. He was also clean shaven and wearing a dark red T-shirt and blue jeans with a brown belt.

On the following day, a woman in a Dorothy Perkins shop in the Cornhill was approached by a man as she bent down to pick up an item. He put his hand up her skirt before apologising and walking out.

The man is described as white, between 25-30 years old, around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins, with short fair hair and wearing a long sleeved brown jumper, light blue jeans and white trainers.

The victim of this incident or anyone who witnessed it is asked contact Ipswich CID on 101, quoting crime reference IC/14/1945 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Barry Byford, of the Ipswich Criminal Investigation Department, said: “We are taking these incidents very seriously and are putting in every effort to try and identify, arrest and deal with the offender or offenders involved.

“We are also appealing for members of the public to help us by making us aware of any information relating to these incidents. For example, did you see someone similar to the male described on the days in the same area hanging about suspiciously or did you witness any of the incidents?”

Call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
