Nigel Fitch, of Downside Close, died after the collision on the railway line earlier this week.
An inquest is likely to be opened and adjourned into the 43-year-old's death at some point during the next seven days.
Police have said formal identification of Mr Fitch has now taken place and relatives have been informed.
His body was discovered after British Transport police were called to the railway line in the area of Bobbits Lane at Wherstead early on Tuesday.
Officers handling the investigation said the tragedy involved the 10.30pm train from London Liverpool Street on Monday.
Acting Sergeant Paul Thompson, officer in charge at Ipswich, said at the time that Mr Fitch's death was not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesman for the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust said that the driver of the train had been treated for shock at the scene.
After initial investigations at the scene, the train continued to Ipswich station where it was taken out of service.
The train finally reached the station at around 1.30am.
Around 30 passengers bound for Stowmarket, Diss and Norwich completed their journey in coaches.
