With more than a million YouTube hits and counting, Moya is looking forward to supporting Mick Hucknall on his current UK solo tour, stopping off at the Ipswich Regent tonight.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter has been tipped as the next big thing; even Hollywood blogger Perez Hilton was won over, branding her “the female Bruno Mars”.

Having played alongside everyone from Rizzle Kicks and Newton Faulkner to Karima Francis, Jack Savoretti and Andy Burrows, her latest single, the electro-tinged A Little More Love, is out now.

“It’s a bit of a transition for me,” admits Moya. ‘There’s no doubt I love everything I’ve recorded so far, but with this single I wanted to incorporate the kind of music I listen to. I think it’s important to keep my sound current.”

The follow-up to her debut Making Me Fall, which took the airwaves by storm last October and spent three weeks on the BBC Radio 2 A-List, it opens gently and slowly builds until it sounds like it’s about to break into full-on dance territory.

“You think it’s going to go somewhere it doesn’t,” she says. “But that’s what I like about it.”

The song itself is about the effect of fame on a relationship.

“The main sentiment is money doesn’t make you a better person. What people need more than anything is love, respect and attention and all the money in the world can’t replace that.”

A Little More Love is produced and co-written with David Blair-Oliphant and the video has notched up more than 403,000 views on YouTube, a number Moya still can’t quite get her head round.

“These past few months have been pretty amazing, now it’s about stepping up and giving it even more. I’m really excited about what this year could bring.”

Hucknall’s American Soul show signals the start of a new chapter for the ex-Simply Red frontman.

It showcases tracks from his forthcoming solo album of the same name, featuring his own spin on classic songs which have inspired him.

Known for his interpretations of others’ songs like Money’s Too Tight To Mention, If You Don’t Know Me By Now and You Make Me Feel Brand New, the album includes classics like I Only Have Eyes For You and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.

Tickets for his Ipswich gig tonight have sold out; try the box office for returns.
