Father Christmas and his friends collected £19,500 to support vulnerable people in Ipswich during their latest sleigh ride around the town.

The proceedings from the 2017/18 Rudolph Run will go to Ipswich FIND, which runs a food bank, and Ipswich Winter Night Shelter, which offers a bed to rough sleepers during the coldest months of the year.

The much-loved annual event is organised by Ipswich Round Table.

In his last month as chairman, Tony Cheung said: “It has been a privilege to continue this Ipswich tradition to bring old Rudolph to so many people around Ipswich.

“It’s a lot of hard work but it is always worth it to see the surprise and joy that Santa and his sleigh brings.

“The generosity of the good people of Ipswich and all the local companies who supported us was second to none as they all appreciate that their generosity go towards worthy causes such as Ipswich FIND and the Ipswich Night Shelter.”

In the past 12 months, Ipswich Round Table has also donated to other local charities including East and Mid Suffolk Guide Dogs and Autism&ADHD.

The group will round off its season with a charity ball at Ipswich Corn Exchange on April 28, which will support Fresh Start - new beginnings.

The charity offers therapeutic support to sexually abused children in Suffolk.
