A homelessness campaign in Ipswich which aims to reduce begging and help those find long-term solutions to getting off the streets has been given a funding boost.
The Help Our Homeless campaign was launched in July last year with the aim of educating the public on the best ways to help those living on the streets, and prevent begging.
The scheme urged people to donate to the causes that can help homelessness rather than individual beggars, with one campaign slogan stating: “Most people begging do not sleep rough, and most people sleeping rough do not beg”.
At the Ipswich Borough Council central area committee this month, a funding boost of £1,864.22 was approved which will go towards running costs and promotional items such as banners, business cards that can be given to beggars highlighting help available and collection boxes that can be distributed around the town centre.
