Parents at an Ipswich School are today desperately searching for alternative wrap around childcare after it was announced Seagulls after school club is being axed.

The club is run by an independent provider but based within the school complex, and caters for 24 children each afternoon.

However, parents were informed yesterday that the club was closing and would be moving out on October 31, the last day of the half-term break.

Parents have been left shocked by the announcement and one mum, whose two children attend the club, said: “I don’t know what I am going to do.

“My kids love it there, they do so much with them and it is a real lifeline for us as working parents.”

The owner has said she is “disappointed” that she is having to close and will be seeking alternative premises.

It is believed the school is looking for another childcare provider.

On Friday, The Rhymes breakfast and after-school clubs at Rose Hill Primary School in Derby Road closed its doors, with no guarantee that it will re-open.

A note on the company’s website says that they will also be closing their centre at Heath Primary School, Bell Lane, Kesgrave, at October half term.

Do you rely on Seagulls or another after school club? How important is this form of wrap-around care for working parents? Is there a shortage of childcare in the town?
