WATERFRONT: The company responsible for the graffiti-hit Regatta Quay building - known as the “wine rack” has pledged to step up security at the site.

The Evening Star revealed earlier this week that daredevil street “artists” had once again scaled the 14-storey structure to daub their tags on its tallest point.

The area where the graffiti, including a brazen “I’m back” taunt, was sprayed had only been scrubbed clean three weeks ago after being targeted during the summer.

The skeleton of the building has been a feature of the area for more than two years after developers City Living went into administration.

The development is currently the responsibility of administrators Grant Thornton.

Martin Ellis, Recovery and Reorganisation Partner at Grant Thornton and joint administrator of City Living, said he remained “very concerned” that there had been security breaches at Regatta Quay and that the situation would be monitored closely.

He said: “As a result, we have again reviewed security procedures at the site with the security firm, CCTV providers and insurers involved.

“Round the clock security has been retained and the 2.5 metre-high damaged hoardings have now been repaired. The remaining building materials on the site will also be removed shortly.

“We are also liaising closely with all stakeholders to explore the possible future options for the tower and site in general.”
