TWO of the Star’s most successful appeals are to get a boost from the opening of the new Waitrose/John Lewis at home stores on November 8.

John Lewis Partnership encourages all its stores to raise money for their local communities. The new Waitrose store will donate 1,000 to be divided between three charities each month, with shoppers choosing which will get the largest share.

Among the charities up for selection during the first month are Somebody’s Daughter, set up by the Star with Ipswich Borough Council following the Ipswich murders, and our Ipswich Lifesaver Appeal, which the Star set up to increase cover by the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The third charity to be supported is the Town FM Kids Trust.

John Lewis at home will share 3,000 between three charities every three months. The first charities to benefit will be Lighthouse Women’s Aid, St Elizabeth Hospice, and Optua.

Paul Reeley, branch manager, Waitrose Ipswich said: “We’re delighted to be launching our Community Matters scheme in Ipswich, which we find to be a fantastic way of supporting causes that are close to the hearts of people in the local community.

“There are so many deserving causes and we would like to encourage people to get involved and nominate the local causes they are close to.”

Anna Moir, branch manager, John Lewis at home Ipswich said: “We are so pleased to be able to support these three local causes and the incredible contribution they make to the area. We are looking forward to becoming part of the community.”
