Brad Jones is to become the new editor of the Ipswich Star.

The appointment comes as “exciting plans’’ are being put in place for the Star, to take effect from this autumn.

Ipswich-born Brad has worked for Archant for more than 20 years, most recently as news editor of the Star and its sister title, the East Anglian Daily Times.

The move means the Star will have an editor dedicated full-time to the title. For the last four years, Terry Hunt, editor-in-chief for Archant in Suffolk, has edited both dailies.

Terry said: “This is a richly-deserved appointment for Brad, who has done a great job as news editor. We have exciting plans for the Star which will be put into place in the autumn.’’

Brad said: “Ipswich is my home town, so it’s a real privilege to get this opportunity. The Star has a huge role to play as Ipswich enjoys a genuine resurgence. I’m looking forward to ensuring we offer a great daily paper and brilliant website which appeal to many new readers as well as existing ones.’’

Archant’s Suffolk headquarters is due to move to a new building in the heart of Ipswich in September.
