Organisations from across the town joined about 200 Star readers for the service in the Civic Church.

It featured familiar carols that could be sung by the whole congregation as well as beautifully-sung seasonal anthems by the church choir.

The service was led by St Mary le Tower vicar Canon Charles Jenkin with the choir directed by Christopher Borrett and organist William Baldry.

The service raised money for the local charity the Teapot Project which collects edible food from shops and restaurants and distributes it to those in need.

The charity’s Kat Gosling told the congregation about its work during the service.

There were also readings from The Bible and other Christmas passages to put the congregation in the festive mood.
