Work to rebuild Ipswich railway station forecourt is on target for completion by Easter – which should also see Ranelagh Road reopened to traffic.

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council, which is carrying out the work that will be linked with the Travel Ipswich traffic lights system, said there had been no unforeseen problems and engineers were hopeful of meeting its opening date target.

The work should make it easier for buses and taxis to get in and out of the station forecourt – and make it easier for pedestrians to reach the station. The £1m work was due to be completed by Christmas, but extra elements – including linking traffic lights with those at Ancaster Road – pushed it back several months.

The work will not be finally complete until Anglia Water has laid a new main underneath Ranelagh Road later in the spring, allowing it all to be fully resurfaced in the summer.
