Misbehaving on a night out in Ipswich town centre has ended up costing a 19-year-old nearly £530.
Connor Mayhew, formerly of Wilmslow Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.
He also admitted the offence put him in breach of an 18-month conditional discharge.
Prosecutor Simon Bravery said at around 1.45am on October 17 a young woman got into a taxi driver’s car in Cardinal Park.
The court was told she had been involved in an altercation with Mayhew who was her partner.
Mayhew approached the taxi and swore. At one point he kicked out towards the vehicle and aimed a punch at its driver, but it did not connect as the window was only partially open.
Mayhew pushed his girlfriend causing her to nearly fall over. The incident led to his arrest.
Mr Bravery said when interviewed by police Mayhew said he was not used to drinking, but he had consumed a great deal of alcohol and only had a vague recollection of what had happened.
He told an officer the offence occurred after an argument began over the withdrawal of money from a cashpoint.
Mayhew then said he could not remember anything else.
Magistrates heard Mayhew was horrified about the punch he threw and embarrassed about his behaviour.
The court was told Mayhew was also arrested for being drunk and disorderly on August 31 and was given a conditional discharge on September 15.
Mayhew, representing himself, told the court he was getting help for issues he had which affected his mental health.
Magistrates said they would not take any action in relation to the breach of his conditional discharge.
However, Mayhew, who also has two cautions for battery, was fined £265 for threatening behaviour.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs, a £27 victim surcharge and a £150 criminal courts charge.
