An Ipswich teenager who agreed to sell cannabis to pay off a drug debt has been given a community order in court.
Police officers who raided Aaron Smith’s home in April found 42 wraps of leaf cannabis, two sets of scales and £425 cash, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
After his arrest Smith told police he had got into debt with his drug supplier and had been told he could pay off the debt by selling cannabis to his circle of friends, said Daniel Taylor, prosecuting.
Smith, 18, of St John’s Road, Ipswich, admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply and in addition to a 12-month community order he was ordered to take part in a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and to pay £85 costs.
Dino Barricella, for Smith, said his client had mixed with people using drugs while living in hostels in Ipswich and had become involved in drugs himself.
