A BUILDING revolution is happening in Ipswich.

That is the view from council officials as they gear up to show off the main Ipswich projects to a group of delegates later this month.

Representatives from the East of England Development Agency, the University of Essex and a number of housing agencies are to visit new developments around Ipswich.

The £350 million Waterfront expansion, Ipswich Village and Ravenswood are all to be highlighted when the group comes to a conference at Ipswich Town Football Club on April 22.

The proposed plans for a university campus in the centre of town will also be discussed and the conference will also address the issue of the need for more homes in Ipswich.

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council said: "The past decade has seen urban regeneration on a scale unmatched by anywhere else in the region and the revolution is continuing.

"The dramatic changes on the Waterfront, the new Ravenswood community, IP-City and the civic quarter in the Village show that Ipswich has a strong case for becoming the new regional capital."

John Stebbings, Ravenswood project officer for Ipswich Borough Council, said: "The conference will be an ideal opportunity to show off Ravenswood - one of the largest new developments in the region.

"The tour will give visitors an opportunity to see various aspects of the development including the integration of 30 per cent affordable housing, new public open spaces, new primary schools, very sheltered housing scheme and play facilities.

"Ravenswood has, over the years, had many visitors but welcomes the opportunity to show off to a specific housing and regeneration conference."
