A festival aimed at celebrating the culture of the Pacific Islands and raising money for a good cause will take place this weekend.
The Pacific Island Cultural Festival, which takes place at Ipswich YM Rugby Club on Sunday, will include a rugby tournament, including six Pacific Islands teams, music, dance and a fashion show.
It will be the first festival of its kind to take place in the country. Funds that are raised from the event will be donated to Help For Heroes.
A spokesman for the club, which is based in The Street, Rushmere St Andrew, said: “This promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family and for those who are connected or interested in the Pacific Islands culture.”
The gates will open from 9am and the event will be formally opened at 10am by Ipswich mayor Bill Quinton, Lavenia Rokovucago, First Secretary Fiji High Commission and Help For Heroes ambassador Derek Derenalagi.
This will follow a Pacific Islands ‘Conch Call Welcome’ ceremony by Maori warriors.
There will also be a trade tent, crafts and speakers discussing climate change.
The event will cost £12 for adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for children between four and 14. It is free for under fours.
There will be food and drink available on the day.
