UNIGLOBE Travel Plus, has closed down in Ipswich … but customers are being assured that their holiday plans and payments will not be lost.

There has been a travel company at the Buttermarket address for several years, and until earlier this year it was the well-known Travel Plus, run by James Easter.

Mr Easter sold the Travel Plus side of the business to Jaki Foran in May so he could concentrate on his business tours travel consultancy.

Mrs Foran, of Pettaugh, near Debenham, ran Foran Travel Limited as a franchise for Uniglobe. Her company went into liquidation on Monday, November 26.

Today, John Hays, the managing director of Sunderland-based Hays Travel Limited, said that as a member of the Independent Group – an organisation for independent travel agents – he was taking over the paperwork for Mrs Foran's customers.

"I want everyone to know that no holidays or travel arrangements will be lost and we have all customer files, tickets and balance details.

"All customers need to do is to contact us and we will finalise their arrangements for them," he added.

Through the Independent Group's ABTA bonding, no holidays or deposits will be lost, he said.

Mr Hays said that when Mrs Foran took over the Buttermarket travel agency, business had been running smoothly.

He said that he had no details of why difficulties had set in and what caused the business to go into liquidation.

Mrs Foran, had a successful business track record and had been in the travel industry for a year when she took over from Mr Easter.

She was unavailable to comment further.
