THIS is the heart warming moment animal lover Dwayne De’Ath was finally reunited with his pet moggy, which spent 15 hours stuck in a tree.

The five-month-old Bengal cross, Brooklyn, is thought to have got in a pickle at about 9pm on Wednesday when he climbed up a fern tree at Mr De’Ath’s home in Heatherhayes, Ipswich.

But it was not until the feline’s brother, Harlem, came back to the house with blood on his feet that the 37-year-old realised something was wrong and went looking for him.

Mr De’Ath, an electrician, said: “I could hear him but I couldn’t see him and then I found him in the tree about 35ft up.

“It got to 3am and he got even further up and he was meowing all night but there is not a lot you can do at that time.

“I was worried because of the cold. It would have been different if it was summer but he’s just a little cat so I was worried he would get cold and he was so so scared.”

Mr De’Ath said he phoned round a number of organisations asking for help before eventually getting in touch with Paul Dunckley, the owner of Pauls Tree Services, which is based in Felixstowe.

Mr Dunckley arrived in Ipswich yesterday morning and used his cherry picker to get to the cat and bring him back to the ground safely.

Mr De’Ath added: “I was just really happy, I was so glad that he was alright.

“I really appreciate what he did.”

Nina Dunckley, Mr Dunckley’s wife, said: “It’s not about financial reward, it’s just helping – it’s nice to help the community and the general public.”

Despite the drama, Mr De’Ath added he still wants to let Brooklyn and Harlem out of the house to enjoy the fresh air.
