IPSWICH was celebrating today after scooping the Clean Britain Award for 2007.
"This is an award for the whole town," said councillor Inga Lockington, Ipswich Borough Council's environment portfolio-holder.
"There is great pride in Ipswich. We have invested a lot of money in street cleaning, set up a graffiti squad and combined litter enforcement with education in schools.”
Ipswich battled its way to the final of the British Cleaning Council - Clean Britain Award 2007 and pipped the London borough of Lewisham to the post.
The borough council spends more than a quarter of a million pounds each year cleaning the streets. Anyone who sees litter, graffiti or fly-tipping should telephone the Cleaner Ipswich Hotline, 01473 433000.
