A woman bitten by a dog has described how she was left in tears with blood dripping from her arm after the animal’s owner deserted her in an Ipswich park.

The lady, who did not want to be named, had been walking her own pet in Gippeswyk Park last Friday morning when the attack took place.

After seeing her black Staffordshire terrier scuffling with a white dog of the same breed the lady went to separate the two animals.

But as she got close to the pair the other dog jumped up and bit her on the arm.

Shocked, upset and in a lot of pain, the lady was approached by the white dog’s owner.

“I stood there for a while and the owner came over to me and said ‘let me have a look at it’,” the victim said.

“He just had a look at it and said ‘get that looked at’, and walked off.

“I was in tears. Another lady came over and she had a tissue so I could put pressure on it and then the park warden came along.

“I was in shock really. I was all shaky and upset.”

The woman first visited the hospital before having the wound treated at her local surgery.

She has two puncture wounds on the underside of her right forearm and four on top.

They are now covered by a dressing and she is still taking antibiotics to stop them becoming infected.

But rather than the injury itself the unfortunate lady said the worst part of her ordeal was the reaction of the white dog’s owner.

As well as offering no help or support to the injured victim before leaving her in the park, she said he didn’t appear concerned by his pet’s actions.

“If a dog is friendly and does that you’d be shocked,” she said. “But he showed no emotion whatsoever.

“He didn’t appear shocked at all. That was the worrying part.

“It makes you wonder if he did know what it (the dog) was like.”

Suffolk police are appealing for anyone with information about the attack or the dogs owner to come forward.

The man is described as white and in his sixties with grey hair. He was of slim build and dressed smartly.
