ONE lucky Ipswich woman is £53,000 richer today after hitting the winning numbers on the national bingo.

The winner, who does not wish to be named, says she started playing the game with her mum and dad and now visits the Mecca Bingo Hall in Lloyds Avenue, Ipswich, two or three times a week. "I just love my bingo," she said still in shock after her massive win.

"I usually play with my daughters but they were otherwise engaged and I was on my own. It still hasn't hit me yet. It's unreal."

The 54year-old, who lives in the Castle Hill area of Ipswich, works as a cook and said her first thought on what she would do with the prize money was realise her ultimate dream of having a new kitchen.

She has four daughters and three grandchildren.

The win comprised of £50,000 from the national bingo prize, plus a further regional prize of £3,631 and club prize of £58.

The full house was completed in 44 numbers, the fewest anyway nationwide. The 15 numbers which claimed the jackpot were: 1, 10, 19, 20, 26, 34, 46, 56, 57, 60, 67, 74, 78, 79, 81.

The woman won the cash bonanza on Saturday night.

It is not the first time that Suffolk bingo players have come up triumphs on the numbers this year.

Including the latest win there have now been three lucky Suffolk punters this year who have netted a staggering £314,000 between them in Ipswich.

It was only in March this year that we reported of an Ipswich woman winning a massive £213,300 after hitting the jackpot at bingo - the biggest the Mecca club in Ipswich has ever recorded in its 35-year history.

The 20-year-old, who lives in the town, struck lucky when she was playing a nationwide session with her mother and boyfriend, again at the Mecca Bingo Hall in Lloyds Avenue.

Previous to this John Johnson, 51, of Needham Market scooped nearly £48,000 playing bingo at the Ipswich Gala Club.

The National Bingo Game is played every night of the year except Christmas Day with two games on Saturdays. Since it started 14 years ago, £619 million has been paid out to lucky winners.
