Work to rebuild Tower Ramparts bus station in Ipswich is progressing well and looks set to be completed ahead of schedule, it has emerged.
The renovation of the site has been coupled with construction at the Old Cattle Market bus station.
Both initiatives have formed part of the £21million Travel Ipswich programme, which has included the addition of new traffic light systems in the town.
Work began in earnest at the site early last month but at a meeting of the borough council’s central area committee last night, transport officials hinted that it could be completed about two weeks ahead of schedule.
Graham Newman, the county council’s cabinet member for roads and transport, said at the meeting: “Work at Tower Ramparts bus station is progressing very well.
“We set a target of getting it completed by November 15 but, without any hitches, it could be earlier than that date.
“Possibly by the end of this month (October) or early November.”
