Highways chiefs have said there are no plans to close the Orwell Bridge currently despite some brisk winds in the region.

Storm Callum has battered Wales and western England today and winds of more than 70mph alongside torrential rain left many households without power and dozens of flights grounded.

East Anglia has largely escaped the severe weather conditions, with many places in Suffolk and north Essex enjoying a dry, mild and bright day.

But moderate to strong winds have left some people wondering about a possible closure to the Orwell Bridge.

Highways England said wind speeds are constantly monitored.

A spokesman for Highways England said on Twitter: “No plans to close at present as wind speeds are forecast to remain within the parameters to keep it open.

“These are constantly monitored with equipment on the bridge itself, and also Met Office information, we will update this feed should that change.”
