Piles of waste – not to mention a cooker, a washing machine and a dumped car – are today strewn near the entrance to Anglian Water's Sproughton sewage treatment works in Church Lane.

This tipping hotspot is now in an even worse state than when we launched our crusade against fly-tipping two months ago. But Babergh District Council has pledged to send its contractors to clear the site.

A spokesman for the council said: "We have made considerable efforts to identify the owner through the services of the land registry, but we have been unable to pinpoint who owns the land.

"We will be clearing the site."
