ITFC defender Tommy Smith swaps the pitch for the pan as he takes on Suffolk Show omelette challenge

He may have skills on the football pitch, but ITFC defender Tommy Smith’s talent in the kitchen were - he admitted - a little limited when he undertook the omelette challenge at the Suffolk Show this afternoon.
Smith went head to head with show trustee Peter Over in the cookery demonstration kitchen, hosted by Emma Crowhurst of Cookery Workshops.
The competition held no bounds, and the two competitors were entitled to distract, sabotage and confuse as much as they desired as they fought for the title of first place.
It seemed there would be a strong winner, as just before the competition got underway Smith admitted to the audience: “I tried making an omelette for the first time last night.”
However, Mr Over’s omelette looked not-too-dissimilar from scrambled egg as it left the pan, and Smith was voted as winner by cheers from the crowd. Granted, his footballer status may have given him a boost, but still.
Speaking afterwards, he said: “I’m not sure I will be taking up omelette making in the future, but I’m glad to have won.
“It (the Suffolk Show) is a great event. My other half is heavily involved in it, so it’s great to come along and support her.”
Mr Over added: “It was fantastic. It’s lovely to see so many people here, and lovely to see Tommy.
“It was very enjoyable.
“The Suffolk Show has wonderful support from the [ITFC] players and ex-players, and it has been a great success. The fans really appreciate it, because they are on a break.”
