AN Ipswich man who carried out an unprovoked attack on another man, has been jailed for six months.

Shaun Sadler, 22, was standing with a group of friends near his home in Kesteven Road, when the victim of the attack, Dominic Harding walked past with a friend, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

A conversation took place between the men and Sadler had dared Mr Harding to run up the driveway of a house.

Mr Harding and his friend walked off and as they did so, Sadler had chased after Mr Harding's friend and had then pushed and punched Mr Harding to the ground, said Prava Virdi, prosecuting.

Mr Harding was then kicked and punched by at least two other people and was later taken to hospital by ambulance and had an X-ray on a suspected broken bone in his hand.

During the incident Mr Harding's mobile phone fell out of his pocket and was stolen.

Sadler admitted assaulting Mr Harding and being involved in the theft of his mobile phone.

Jailing him for six months, Judge John Devaux described the incident as unpleasant. Simon Spence, for Sadler, said his client was in work and should be given credit for pleading guilty to the offences.

He said the incident had happened after Sadler had been drinking and the x-rays taken on Mr Harding's hand had shown that no bones were broken.
