A drink driver who gave police a false name after he was involved in a minor accident in Ipswich while he had children in his car has been jailed for eight months.

Marius Bahica gave officers his brother’s name after he failed a roadside breath test following a collision between two vehicles in Norwich Road on September 2, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Michael Crimp, prosecuting, said Bahica was one-and-a-half times the drink drive limit.

When no-one turned up at magistrates’ court on September 25 a warrant for his brother’s arrest was issued.

When police went to Victoria Street with the warrant they realised Marius Bahica was the man they were looking for and arrested him.

Bahica, 25, of Victoria Street, Ipswich, admitted perverting the course of justice, drink-driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

As well as the prison term he was banned from driving for 22 months.

Paul Donegan, for Bahica, said his client had admitted lying about his name when police went to his house to execute the arrest warrant issued by the magistrates.
