AN Ipswich man whose "impeccable" character was shattered by a drug bust, has been jailed.
Peter Smith, 32, of Wallace Road, pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply.
When Smith's home was searched a total of 1.73kg of cannabis, valued at up to £7,000, was seized.
Ipswich Crown Court heard that some of the drugs were cut into small amounts and wrapped in cling film. Scales used for weighing drugs were also found.
Sally Freeman, mitigating, said Smith had become ill and was unable to work.
The court heard that Smith had sold cannabis to raise his standard of living.
Mrs Freeman said: "He shows considerable remorse for what he has done, also for the distress he has brought on his family. Up to this point he has been of impeccable character."
Mr Record Goldstaub, QC, said although Smith's dealing was a "relatively small scale commercial activity," the offence was serious.
Smith was sentenced to eight months in prison.
