A car mechanic who went on the rampage and smashed up an Ipswich nightspot causing £9,000 damage has been jailed for 30 months.
Gary Wing became upset following a dispute about how drinks were to be paid for and during the violence that followed he damaged four beer pumps, a speaker, a pool table light, a till and screen and a large wall mirror, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Wing, 22, of Newnham Court, Ipswich, had denied causing criminal damage at The Music Room in Duke Street, Ipswich, in November last year but was convicted following a trial last month.
Peter Gair, prosecuting, said the bill for repairs caused during the “rampage” came to a total of £9,005.
The court heard the trouble started after one of Wing’s friends ordered drinks and there was a dispute about how they were going to be paid for.
The person who ordered the drinks returned to the bar again to ask for another round and the barman told him he knew he did not have any money and refused to serve him.
Wing had then got involved in the dispute and told the barman he would pay in the morning.
At some point Wing threw the money over the bar and onto the floor.
The barman then picked it up and gave the money back, telling Wing to leave and they would sort things out in the morning.
Wing then grabbed the barman and pulled him forward.
He was then told to calm down and he grabbed a screen on the till and threw it across the room.
He went over to one of the pool tables before going back to the bar and swinging one of the beer pumps around.
The barman had to go down to the cellar to turn off a broken pump that was spraying beer and when he returned to the bar, Wing had left.
The court heard Wing was in breach of a suspended sentence order imposed in October for offences including assault and criminal damage.
Charles Myatt, representing Wing, said his client was a “functioning alcoholic” and had a business underneath The Music Room.
