A talk show presenter, known for his zero tolerance approach, has backed a hard-hitting new campaign by the region’s ambulance service.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) launched Don’t Choose to Abuse two weeks ago highlighting the unacceptable aggression its staff receive.
Jeremy Kyle recorded a video message supporting the drive while he was filming for a new series in Bedfordshire.
He said: “Ambulance staff join the service to do their best for patients with life-threatening conditions and it is totally unacceptable they face aggression and violence.
“Ambulance staff should be able to do their job in a safe environment. It is a very important thing. The service is incredible. Please, don’t choose to abuse.”
In 2016/17, 256 staff members from EEAST were physically assaulted, and a study has found more than 75% of the trust’s workers say they receive verbal abuse regularly or every shift.
The campaign has gained supported from police, fire services, hospitals, and other ambulance services.
