AFTER just a few weeks at stage school, young actor William Townsend has been left jumping for joy today after winning his first part in a professional production.

The ten-year-old has been selected to take part in the Shakespeare 4 Kidz performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream at Felixstowe's Spa Pavilion next week.

William was chosen from the young actors and actresses at the resort's Stagecoach Theatre School and is the only child from the town taking part in the show, which will be seen by hundreds of school children as well as adults.

William, who lives in Felixstowe and is a pupil at Colneis Junior School, is “very excited” about his role as an Indian Prince.

Rebecca Darcy, 24, who runs the theatre school at Brackenbury Sports Centre, High Road East, on Sunday mornings, said she was delighted for the youngster.

“I am sure he will gain a lot from working with a team of professional actors and we are very proud that he is the only child to be chosen from Felixstowe to appear in this professional touring production,” she said.

“He has been with the stage school just seven weeks so it is quite amazing for him to be taking part in such a big production. He is really excited and we are all looking forward to it.”

William, who is currently rehearsing for Stagecoach's Christmas show Cinderella in which he plays a Jitterbug, has had a moment of fame before - appearing at just four weeks old on Top of the Pops in a video for the band Divine Comedy.

He also sang in the Tearfund shows Heaven2Earth and 4 Unto Us at the Spa Pavilion, and his hobbies include tennis, football, piano and cooking.

The production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is a musical theatre adaptation of Shakespeare's play and will be on at the Spa on November 23 and 24.

It will be on at 1.30pm and 7.30pm on the Thursday and 10am and 1.30pm on the Friday. Tickets available from the box office on 01394 282126.
