IPSWICH theatre group the Co-op Juniors has been named one of the first stage companies in the UK to present the hugely popular Disney hit, High School Musical 2.

The show is billed as a sequel to last year's High School Musical, which broke all box office records for the Juniors and sold out within days.

It opens at the Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge, on May 2 and runs for 15 performances until May 9, with tickets available from this Monday.

Pauline Walker, co-director of the Co-op Juniors, said: “We're very excited to be staging this brand-new stage version with the original numbers from the TV movie.

“The audience went crazy for the show last year, and this new musical takes the story into the summer holidays when the characters get jobs at a glamorous country club.

“All the favourite characters are there from East High School. There's romance, intrigue, laughter, music and dance, it's a stunning mix for a family audience.”

Disney's High School Musical is a huge international success story, with professional tours across the US, in the UK and all over Europe.

Co-director Jeannie Ingram said: “We have a talented cast, a professionally designed stage set with some spectacular lighting and special effects to make this a real musical celebration.

“It's such a vibrant, sing-along show. All the kids at school seem to know every number. We're setting ourselves a big challenge. Expectations will be high!”

High School Musical 2 is the second production to be staged by the Co-op Juniors at the Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge. All tickets are at last year's prices of 10, plus a booking fee.

Performances, which last 95 minutes, are at 1pm, 4pm and 7pm on Saturday May 2, Sunday May 3, Monday May 4 and Saturday May 9. There is one performance at 8pm on Thursday May 7 and two at 5.15pm and 8pm on Friday May 8.

Tickets may be booked in person at the Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge, or by telephone on 01394 615015 (Monday-Friday 10am-4pm).
