TOWNS are forever changing as buildings are demolished or altered for a new use. It is often difficult to recall what was there before.
A photographic record of towns is usually quite random, some parts are well recorded, but other often prominent parts of the town are lost to memory as soon as the demolition work begins.
I have taken a look at a few familiar sights in Ipswich which were photographed over a century ago, to see some of the changes to our county town.
My thanks go to Barbara Cutting, of Stowmarket, who provided the old photographs of Ipswich, which were taken by Ipswich photographer Harry Walters who worked from his home and studio on St Margaret's, Ipswich.
