Sessions will run from Tuesday, May 30 and conclude on Friday, with primary age children able to come along between 10am and 12pm, and secondary school pupils between 6pm and 8pm each day.

Mobile skatepark equipment has been set-up in the school and a number of boards, pads and helmets available for those who do not have them.

The sessions are being carried out by trained skateboarders who will also be able to offer tuition and advice.

A Kesgrave Town Council spokeswoman said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer this activity for children in the half term, which has been made possible via a grant from East Suffolk Youth Priority Action Group and funding from district councillors Sue Mower and Stuart Lawson’s community enabling budgets and from Kesgrave Town Council.

“The sessions are a culmination of efforts to make use of portable skateboarding equipment donated to the council by Suffolk Coastal District Council some years ago.

“A number of local volunteers have been recruited and trained to provide a safe environment for young people who would like to give skateboarding a try or for seasoned skateboarders to improve their skills using the ramps and rails.”

“We also wish to thank Cedarwood Primary School for hosting this event on their playground and allowing access to the equipment at various times for maintenance and session planning.”

It is hoped that other sessions may be run in future or regular weekend or evening sessions set up if the week is successful.

Hundreds had previously signed petitions over the last two decades calling for a skatepark in the town.
