LITTLE kids thought big when they planned to raise thousands of pounds for an IT suite for their Suffolk school.

Now youngsters at Capel St Mary CEVP are celebrating after governors gave the go ahead for work on the new £20,000 facility to start.

"Putting our computers in an IT suite where teachers can take classes and teach computer skills is one of the best ways of helping pupils with IT," said head teacher, Nicola Sirett.

The school made a successful application to the Department of Education and Skills' 'seed challenge' fund, which offered £8,500 towards the project.

They have already raised nearly £6,000 themselves and are confident enough that they will reach the total that they have asked for building work to start as soon as possible.

The computer room, which will extend the existing library, will house 11 terminals on a network and a multi-media projector.

Funds have been raised from a variety of activities from a sponsored spell to a Christmas fair. Firms in the region may be asked to contribute to a grand draw for a summer fair later in the year. Any shortfall can be made up from the school budget.

If all goes according to plan work may start on the new IT suite as early as April.
