A KNIFE-WIELDING attacker left a young woman with neck wounds after threatening to kill her on the outskirts of Ipswich town centre today.Paramedics treated the 25-year-old victim for cuts to her neck at the scene of the attack which happened in Sir Alf Ramsey Way.

Paramedics treated the 25-year-old victim for cuts to her neck at the scene of the attack which happened in Sir Alf Ramsey Way.

The woman was then taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance for more treatment to her wounds.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the victim's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident occurred at 1.15am near the Alderman Road recreation ground.

Police arrested a 43-year-old man close to where the attack is said to have taken place.

He was taken to Ipswich police station where he was held in custody overnight.

The suspect, who is said to live in the town, was due to be questioned by officers today.

The police spokesman said the attack is not thought to have been sexually motivated, although officers were unable to give any further details surrounding the reason for the assault at this time.

He added officers were alerted to the incident when they received a telephone call from the victim following the attack.
