A lorry driver has been arrested after his heavy goods vehicle crashed into the central reservation on the A14 at Ipswich.

Two lanes were closed following the accident on the eastbound carriageway at junction 53 at Whitehouse at about 6.26am on Sunday, November 18.

The lorry suffered extensive damage to its cab and had to be removed by recover vehicles later that morning.

Motorist Mark Langford, of Stowmarket, who drove past shortly after said: “I would say a good 50 metre stretch of crash barrier had been damaged by the impact.”

Tthe lorry driver is not understood to have required medical treatment but officers said they had been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Lane two of the eastbound carriageway and also lane two of the westbound carriageway were closed, but a Suffolk police spokesman said traffic was able to keep flowing.

However repair work to the central reservation caused disruption to traffic in both directions throughout the day.
